Shaky Grounds Cafe is an award-winning mobile preparedness experience that combines immersive escape-room challenges with practical emergency preparedness education. We bring the experience directly to your school, helping participants learn, practice, and discuss preparedness in a fun and memorable way.
More Than Just a Game
Most preparedness education relies on lectures, handouts, and presentations. We take a different approach.
Participants first experience preparedness through hands-on challenges, teamwork, and problem-solving inside the Shaky Grounds Cafe mobile escape room. Then, through guided discussion and an optional presentation, we discuss the lessons learned while playing the game and help transform them into practical actions families can take at home.

The Shaky Grounds Cafe Experience
Students and families will take part in an interactive escape room experience designed to teach emergency preparedness skills. Together, they’ll solve puzzles, uncover clues, and complete hands-on challenges inspired by a major Pacific Northwest earthquake. It’s a fun, memorable way to build real-world readiness through teamwork, problem-solving, and play.
Along the way, participants learn practical skills, including:

Turn Experience Into Action
After the game, students and families can continue learning through the Be 2 Weeks Ready program. Offered as a workshop or assembly, it helps connect what they experienced in the game to simple, practical steps families can take at home.
This optional add-on is based on the Oregon Department of Emergency Management’s Be 2 Weeks Ready framework and explores all eight preparedness areas in a clear, approachable way. It also provides a chance to reflect on the game experience and talk through key takeaways together.
Participants will receive take-home preparedness guides, checklists, and other resources designed to keep the conversation going long after the event.

Preparedness Mini-Games
Fast-paced 5–10 minute challenges designed for large groups. Participants solve 3 preparedness-themed puzzles while learning real-world preparedness concepts.
High throughput allows hundreds of participants to participate throughout the event.
Full Escape Room Experience
A deeper 30–60 minute immersive experience where teams work together to overcome preparedness-themed challenges. Our complete award-winning experience for groups of up to 8 players at a time.
