From Escape Room to Classroom: Designing “Aha!” Moments That Stick
Facilitator: Tyler Robinson
We recently had the exciting opportunity to present our insights on gamifying preparedness messaging at the Oregon Prepared Conference 2026, where the response was overwhelmingly positive! We’re thrilled to continue the conversation by presenting our findings again at the Escape Rooms in Education Showcase 2026.
The event is free to attend, and you can register here.
Workshop Description:
Side Quest Escape Games Escape rooms captivate participants with moments of sudden insight—those “Aha!” experiences. This session shows educators how to design learning experiences that spark curiosity, engagement, and lasting understanding. Using principles from commercial escape rooms and a mobile emergency preparedness escape room, we’ll explore the “puzzle cycle” of clues, challenges, validation, and reward, reframed for educational settings. Attendees will learn low-cost, adaptable strategies—physical materials, digital tools, and guided interactions—to create insight-driven learning. Participants will leave with actionable tools to turn ordinary lessons into memorable “Aha!” moments that engage learners, encourage problem-solving, and make knowledge stick.
